What is Sedation Dentistry?
Mission Hills Dental
Sedation dentistry can help patients anxious about dental treatments to seek regular, stress-free care. Our Mission Hills Dental team is well skilled in providing safe, anxiety-free dental experiences through sedation dentistry.
Sedation dentistry doesn’t put you to sleep. It allows you to stay awake during any procedure but also stay calm throughout your treatment.
Sedation dentistry is popular with patients, as most can be given orally – no injections, no pain. Our patients’ safety and comfort are key for a successful procedure, and sedation can be the best way to accomplish this.
Safe, pain free, and with few side effects, sedation techniques can allow us to accomplish more during each visit, as patient anxiety will be alleviated. Patients who choose sedation should be accompanied by a care-giver, to drive them to and from appointments.
Nitrous Oxide
Sedation Treatments
The most popular sedation types offered are nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation. Mild, moderate or deep sedation can be chosen depending on the patient’s desire and medical history.
Nitrous Oxide is a mild sedative administered throughout the dental process, relieving anxiety with few side effects. IV Sedation is a moderate sedative type for patients who would prefer to feel very little awareness of the dental procedure.
Oral conscious sedation offers moderate sedation that is usually taken prior to the appointment and during the procedure. The most common drugs used are Benzodiazepines, and include Valium®, Halcion®, Ativan®, and Versed®.
