Mission Hills Dental
Surgical care is offered only by dental specialists with advanced training and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck injuries.
An Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon is capable of diagnosing and treating conditions such as TMJ, facial pain, dental implants, teeth extractions, and the treatment of impacted wisdom teeth.
In addition, we can offer treatment for oral cancers, sleep apnea, and more. One common condition requiring surgery are impacted wisdom teeth.
What is Jaw Bone Stabilization?
Bone Grafting
The last of your 32 teeth to surface, usually between the ages of 17 to 25, these molars often do not fit easily into the mouth and can impact or become stuck in a painful position. The position in and of itself can cause infection or tooth damage.
Removing these molars is often the only option. While not all wisdom teeth require removal, left untreated, an impacted wisdom tooth can cause multiple problems for the patient.
Jaw bone stabilization through bone grafting is another surgical capability we can offer our patients. After assessing the bone condition, we can perform an autogenous bone graft taken from the patient’s own body, a synthetic graft, or a graft utilizing cow bone. This procedure can take several months to complete, but will result in a stabilized and healthy jaw bone.
