What Are Porcelain Crowns?
Mission Hills Dental
At Mission Hills Dental, we’re experts at placing crowns. A crown covers and encases an entire tooth surface, which restores tooth shape and size. It protects and strengthens tooth structure, when other restorations simply will not work.
The most popular type of crown is porcelain, which closely resembles natural tooth shade. Highly durable and long lasting, porcelain crowns match a patient’s shape, size, and tooth color.
How They Work
Temporary and Permanent Crowns
Crowns are utilized to repair broken, decayed, or fractured teeth and fillings. They’re also excellent for cosmetic enhancements, or to replace large fillings. If a root canal has occurred, crowns are also often employed.
To place a crown, your dentist will first take accurate impressions to create it, and use the mold as a temporary crown for a period of about two weeks, while the new crown is produced in a laboratory.
When the temporary crown is removed, the tooth is cleaned and the new crown carefully attached to make sure bite and spacing are a perfect fit for your mouth.
