What are Dentures?
Mission Hills Dental
Mission Hills Dental is skilled at providing dentures for patients requiring this restorative treatment. What are dentures, exactly? Dentures are removable dentistry that is used to replace missing teeth and any surrounding gum tissues.
Dentures are carefully crafted to resemble your teeth and keep you smiling. We offer two types of dentures, complete and partial.
Complete dentures are used when the teeth are entirely missing or damaged, while partials fill in spaces created by missing teeth and prevent other teeth from shifting in a patient’s mouth. Complete dentures fall into two categories: conventional or immediate.
How Dentures Work
Conventional and Immediate Dentures
Conventional dentures are made after teeth have been removed and gums have healed in approximately four to six weeks. Immediate dentures are made in advance and placed immediately after teeth are removed, with adjustments being made to fit once gum swelling has healed.
Dentures are durable and long lasting, and assist patients who have a loss of all or several teeth, improving smile, features, chewing, and speech capabilities for a patient.
Impressions and measurements are taken prior to creating a patient’s unique denture, and fitting appointments may be necessary to assure a comfortable, natural fit. We’ll offer cleaning and care instructions for dental wearers, too, to enhance longevity and comfort.
